Description
P-21 (also written P21 or P021) is a synthetic peptidergic compound derived from the biologically active region of ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF). It was engineered as a small, stable CNTF mimetic: an 11-residue core sequence carrying an adamantylated glycine that improves stability and blood–brain-barrier permeability relative to the parent protein. Unlike full-length CNTF, P-21 does not activate the leukemia inhibitory factor receptor and has been studied as a tool for probing neurotrophic signaling without the confounding effects of the whole cytokine. It is supplied here for controlled analytical and laboratory investigation of neurotrophic and neurogenesis pathways.
Research focus
- CNTF-mimetic and BDNF/TrkB neurotrophic signaling
- Adult hippocampal neurogenesis and synaptic plasticity models
- GSK-3β inhibition and tau phosphorylation pathways
